The Kansas of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced follow-up retail food inspection on January 3, 2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Daylight Donuts was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Kansas food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 5 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • In the crockpot, sausage gravy from a can temped 62F. PIC advises that she was using the crock pot to heat up the gravy and it had been in the crock pot for approx. 30 min. Educated PIC to heat the gravy first, then place in crock pot for hot holding. PIC removed the gravy and heated the gravy in the microwave. COS
  • In a storage location above the 3 compartment sink, A spatula had melted areas on the food contact surface. PIC removed and discarded. COS
  • Chlorine test strips are not on site. PIC advises that she obtained them but could not provide them during the inspection. Not corrected on site.
  • Three live roaches were found in the storage area behind the kitchen (one on the back of the freezer, one at a door jam and one under a table next to the back door). Three live roaches were found in the prep kitchen. (one on the wall above a prep table, one on conduit at the ceiling and one on a suppression system pull box). PIC has used a pest control company but they did not come out in December. Advised owner to explore more frequent visits until problem is corrected. Not corrected on site.
  • Raid Bug Barrier with EPA# 4822-561 was found in a box on a storage shelf. Instructions on the label indicate: “not to be used in a commercial kitchen.” PIC advises that she purchased it to use on the outside of the building. KDA127 ask the product to be removed and the PIC complied. COS
