Complaint inspection at Mi Pueblito Meat Market in Shawnee finds undated food, expired food, slicer stored as clean had dried food debris along the blade

Kansas Department of Agriculture’s (KDA) food safety and lodging program conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 4/15/2020 following a complaint. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Mi Pueblito Meat Market was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Kansas food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 5 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Located in the meat department, sliced cooked ham was being stored in a bag in the meat cooler without an opening date. Employee was unsure when product was originally opened. In the main kitchen walk in cooler, a 5 gallon bucket of salsa was opened without a date. Owner was unsure when bucket was opened. Corrected on site – all products voluntarily discarded.
  • Located in the meat department, opened string and fresco cheese did not have opening dates. Employee said they were both opened today, 4/15. Corrected on site – dates were placed on products.
  • In the meat department, opened chub of party loaf was dated 4/5, which is over 7 days. In the main kitchen walk in cooler, there was a bucket of green salsa dated 4/7/20, cooked soup dated 4/4, cooked beef dated 3/31, and cooked beans dated 4/8/20, all held over 7 days. Corrected on site – products voluntarily discarded.
  • In the meat department, the slicer, stored as clean had dried food debris along the blade. Employee said it was cleaned last night. Corrected on site – employee cleaned slicer correctly. Education provided.
  • Located in the main kitchen, to the left of the register, on the floor, behind a white trash can, there was a can of Raid EPA#4822-596. Corrected on site – can voluntarily discarded and education provided on how to obtain approved chemical.
