The Kansas of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on December 4, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the McDonald’s in Olathe was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Kansas food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 7 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • A cook was seen handling a wet sanitizing towel with bare hands for cleaning then put on gloves to assemble a breakfast sandwich. No hand washing between switching tasks. COS: educated and washed hands. Sandwich discarded.
  • The butter packets in a plastic pan near the drive thru was at 72F. PIC said was out since 9 am. Temp was taken at 11:06am. COS: PIC chose to discard rather than cool.
  • On the breakfast line, slices of American cheese, gravy, muffin butter in a squeeze bottle, and melted stick butter in a metal pan were labeled for time until 1:05pm which is 4 hours from 9:05am. Inspectors entered the FE at 9:00am and noticed time stamps were not available on these foods. COS: discarded all items.
  • 3 plastic pans, stored as clean, had deformations in the FCS. The surfaces were bumpy. COS: discarded.
  • Approximately 50% of dishes and utensils, stored as clean on the shelves next to the 3 vat sink, had sticker residue and food debris on them. COS: moved for cleaning.
  • No backflow prevention device was installed at the mop sink faucet. The hose was resting in basin of mop sink. COS: cut hose.
  • At the first drive window room, a working spray bottle of surface cleaner/disinfectant was hanging on a wire shelf above grape jelly packets and paper napkins. No leakage. COS: moved.
