The Kansas of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 13, 2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Allen Community College Dining Services was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 3 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • A container of individual packets of butter was sitting out at room temperature. The temperature of the butter was 70 degrees. As per manager it has been sitting out since last month (before holiday break)(discarded).
  • In the janitor’s closet by the restrooms in the dining area, the mop sink faucet has a built in backflow prevention device (atmospheric vacuum breaker). Hooked to the faucet is a wye valve. On one side of the wye, a hose goes to a chemical dispensing unit with a built in backflow prevention device. A free hose is hooked to the other side of the wye, and the end was below the flood rim of the sink. Suggest a hose bibb vacuum breaker on this side of the wye, then hook the free hose to it. A photo of a hose bibb vacuum breaker was e-mailed to the person in charge. This violation was cited on a different sink during the last inspection.
  • Fresh rodent droppings (number approximate): in dry storage, 18 along the west wall under shelving, and eight along the east wall by the can rack. As per manager, they have a hired pest control service that sets out traps. Pest control method observed was mechanical traps. No invoice was available for review.
